Ljubljana, 21 September 2015 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, acting as the Managing Authority for European Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund, issued a grant-award decision for the investment “Hydraulic improvement of the water supply system in the area of Osrednja Dolenjska” which will result in long-term and safe drinking water supply. The project worth EUR 22.3 million will receive Cohesion Fund support in the amount of almost EUR 13 million.
The investment will provide long-term and safe drinking-water supply in the municipality of Novo mesto, Straža, Šentjernej, Škocjan and Šmarješke Toplice. Due to inadequate pipe-work, constant defects, and not supplying the needed quantities of drinking water by standard quantities, quality and pressures the drinking water supply systems are no longer adequate. The project covers the instalment of 39,354 metres of pipelines, of which the hydraulic improvements are in the length of 29,761 metres, and the newly-constructed pipelines (connecting to the existing network) in the total length of 9,593 metres. The project also covers construction of 2 drinking water treatment facilities, 6 water reservoirs, 6 pumps (of which 3 are in the framework of water reservoirs) and 1 pumping station. The project will provide reliable and safe drinking water supply for 47,270 newly-connected inhabitants making up 93.8% of all the inhabitants in the mentioned municipalities.
