Brussels, 30 January (STA) - European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso highlighted Slovenia, along with the Netherlands and Poland, as an example of best practice in employment of the youth. Speaking at the European Council meeting in Brussels on Monday, Barroso stressed that youth unemployment was a major problem in many EU members.
Youth unemployment is high above EU average in Spain, Greece, Slovakia, Lithuania, Latvia, Ireland, Italy and Portugal, he listed, proposing they prepare action plans for addressing the issue by mid-April.
Barroso added that quick results could be achieved with existing mechanisms and better use of EU funds, like Slovenia's use of the European Social Fund for supporting employment of young adults below 26. (Slovenian Press Agency)
