Ljubljana, 28 November 2012 – The Ministry of Economic Development and Technology (MEDT), as the Managing Authority for the EU structural funds and the Cohesion Fund, issued a decision granting EU funds for the project “Establishing the infrastructure for assuring equal opportunities for the blind, weak sighted and persons with reading disorders in accessing publications”. 2,699,103.75 Euros is available for the project, which will be implemented by the Association of the Blind and Weak Sighted in Slovenia. The European Social Fund contribution amounts to 85 percent of the value or 2,294,238.19 Euros.
The purpose of the project is to enable the blind, weak sighted and persons with reading disorders the access to publications and information in the techniques, adapted to them, namely from various forms of education, professional training and cultural life and, thus, to increase their employability. The realisation of the project will ensure the conditions for the activity of a central library for the blind, weak sighted and persons with reading disorders within a system of public libraries. The project will also upgrade the model of a library for the blind and weak sighted, namely in its organisational sense. The project will also contribute to greater qualification of professional staff to work with the target group.
The investment will help establish the mechanisms for the overall information and access to cultural goods; it will also create more firm grounds for a more equal inclusion of the blind, weak sighted and persons with reading disorders into the society.
