Ljubljana, 26 November 2013 – Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, acting as the Managing Authority for EU structural funds and the Cohesion Fund, issued a decision awarding EU funds for the comprehensive regulation of the Park of Military History – 1st phase. The aim of the project is the preservation of military-technical and military-historical infrastructure. The project, worth 4.3 million euros, will be co-financed under the European Regional Development Fund in the amount of 3 million euros.
The project entails the renovation of various facilities and the construction of a pavilion which will be the location for the exhibition of some of the most important and larger exhibits of national military history. Emphasis will be given to the submarine P-913 as a unique military-technical exhibit which is kept in the inadequate outdoor location and is exposed to weather conditions, namely despite the fact that it represents the central exhibit of the Park of Military History. The new pavilion will also house military airplanes and some of the vehicles from the national military-historical heritage. The restored exhibits will be integrated through an exhibition which will present the role of the presented exhibits in the Slovenian military history or in the history of Slovenia.
The objective of the project is also the arrangement of access routes, parking zones and other infrastructure which will enable the operation of the newly-constructed segment of the complex. The first phase of the project will ensure the first step in its transformation into an important museum and tourist centre.
