Ljubljana, 18 May 2015 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, acting as the Managing Authority for European Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund, approved the project “Construction of a research greenhouse in the biology centre Večna pot”. The project will ensure that central Slovenia has the adequate infrastructure which will establish conditions for developing new technologies and enhance the cooperation between the research sphere and the users of knowledge. The investment worth nearly EUR 500,000 will receive European Regional Development Fund support in the amount of a little over EUR 400,000.
The new research greenhouse will enable conducting research relating to cultivation of plants similar to those in nature. This is an extremely important in terms of bringing research closer to end users, which is one of the main priorities of the EU guidelines under Horizon 2020. The new research greenhouse will also facilitate conducting research which has thus far been carried out in a quarantine greenhouse. This will result in enhancing the scope of conducted researches.
The investment will equip the Slovenian National Institute of Biology (NIB), in particular the Department of Biotechnology and Systems Biology, with the adequate premises to perform education and research activities as well as ensure smooth functioning of NIB as a whole.
