Ljubljana, 20 January 2014 – Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, acting as the Managing Authority for EU structural funds and the Cohesion Fund, issued a decision awarding EU funds for the project “Reconstruction of the main road G2-102/1037 Dolenja Trebuša – Želin, section III and IV”. The project, worth 9.7 million euros and co-financed under the European Regional Development Fund in the amount of over 8 million euros, will improve the road infrastructure in this area.
The road runs by the right bank of the river Idrijska in the valley, which was formed by the river between the plateaus of the Tolmin Lom and the Kanal Lom, the mountain Šentviška gora and Šebrej. The road technical elements in this section are in extremely poor state which diminishes traffic safety and which will pose an even greater danger to the life and health of the population in the future, namely due to the increase in passenger and freight transport.
The project encompasses the reconstruction of 3,996 metres of road, construction of 6 bridging structures and 2,019 metres of retaining walls, bus stops (three pairs) as well as arrangement of 1,030 metres of banks.
The investment will improve the technical and driving characteristics of the road and, consequently, traffic safety for all road users. Arraigning the mentioned section of the road will improve the conditions also from the view-point of impacts on the living environment as air quality will improve as well as noise pollution will partially be reduced.
The Slovenian Roads Agency is responsible for the implementation of the project where you can also find further information.
