Ljubljana, 17 August 2015 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, acting as the Managing Authority for European Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund, is continuing to issue grant award decisions for projects implemented under the 2014-2020 programming period. The Office issued the grant award decision for two investments, namely “Drinking water supply in the Ljubljanica river basis – lot 1” and “Drinking water supply in the area Sodražica – Ribnica – Kočevje”, which will ensure safe and healthy drinking water supply in these areas. The projects are worth EUR 65.6 million and will receive Cohesion Fund support in the amount of EUR 40.6 million.
The project “Drinking water supply in the Ljubljanica river basin – lot 1” will address the issue of drinking water supply in the municipality Postojna and Pivka. The project covers upgrading and hydraulic improvements of the existing water supply system and connecting inhabitants to the new public water supply network as well as ensuring safe and healthy drinking water supply by constructing water treatment plants. The primary network Postojna – Pivka will be reconstructed and upgraded, a water distribution system will be constructed in Buje and Pivka, two catchments waterworks Malni and Korotan will be constructed, and the pipeline and distribution network in Petelinje will be reconstructed. Thus over 21,000 inhabitants will benefit from safe and health-compliant drinking water supply. The project is worth EUR 34.8 million and will receive Cohesion Fund support in the amount of EUR 21.8 million.
The project “Drinking water supply in the area Sodražica – Ribnica – Kočevje” will also address the issue of reliable, safe and healthy drinking water supply. The project covers hydraulic improvements and connecting new inhabitants to public water supply network. The project covers the construction of 65,570 metres of pipelines, 3 treatment plants for the preparation of drinking water, 11 pumping stations and 4 water reservoirs. The project will results in over 25,000 inhabitants benefiting from better and safer drinking water supply with over 1,300 inhabitants being connected to the new system. This will improve the quality of drinking water supply and living conditions for the inhabitants as well as reduce water losses. The project is worth EUR 30.8 million and will receive Cohesion Fund support in the amount of EUR 18.8 million.
