EU funds for improvement of metrology system in Slovenia

Ljubljana, 26 February 2013 – The Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, acting as the Managing Authority for the EU structural funds and the Cohesion Fund, issued a decision awarding EU funds for the project “Metrology system infrastructure – Pressure”. The value of the project, which will contribute to the improvement of the metrology system and lowering the costs in the field of economy, is a little over 153 thousand Euros. The European Regional Development Fund contribution amounts to 85 percent of the value or almost 131 thousand Euros.

The purpose of the project, which is implemented by the Metrology Institute of the Republic of Slovenia, is to upgrade the national pressure standard which will, consequently, broaden the measurement area in the field of low pressures (vacuum). A special vacuum calibration system will be purchased where the pressures of gases will be generated in accordance with the method of the static and dynamic expansion. Thus, the Republic of Slovenia follows the direct needs of the Slovenian economy as our own – independent of foreign metrology institutions – realisation of traceability of low absolute pressures contributes to lower costs. Better measurements will ensure better traceability of the pressure also for the most demanding users in Slovenia who currently find these services abroad. The investment will also ensure lower rejections and better performance of devices in the field of economy.

The investment directly contributes to the objectives of the Operational Programme for Strengthening Regional Development Potentials for the period 2007-2013, main type of activity “Economic development infrastructure”.
