Ljubljana, 11 September 2015 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, acting as the Managing Authority for European Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund, approved the project “Reconstruction of the Kanin ski resort cableway”. The project, which will cover reconstruction and reestablishment of the cableway of the only Slovenian high mountain ski resort, will receive European Regional Development Fund support in the amount of EUR 3.8 million under the 2007-2013 European Cohesion Policy.
The main goal of the project is to improve infrastructure-related conditions to enhance tourist activities in the municipality of Bovec. The project will extend, diversify and raise the quality of tourist offer in Bovec and the region Severno Primorska regija. The investment worth EUR 5.9 million will enhance accessibility and thus strengthen visibility of Slovenia as a tourist ski destination. The investment also covers design of new integrated tourist products, job creation and enhancing balanced regional development.
The project will also enable restarting tourist activity during the winter season and improve results of the summer season in the municipality of Bovec as well as the wider area of the Soča river valley and the cross-border area between Slovenia and Italy. This opens new opportunities for the development of the Kanin ski resort. Proper maintenance of the cableway and the areas for sports and recreation will enhance local and regional development.
