Ljubljana, 22 April 2015 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, acting as the Managing Authority for European Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund, approved the project “Comprehensive maintenance of the area of the Lipica Stud Farm – Phase III”. The investments to be implemented in the framework of the project will contribute the the preservation of natural and cultural heritage. The investment worth over 5.6 million euros will be co-financed by European Regional Development Fund in the amount of approximately 4.8 million euros.
The investment objective is to manage the outside areas (tree avenues, paths, etc.), facilities (museum of carriages, karst house – facility meant for weddings and other protocol events, and the culinary arts museum), IT infrastructure, outside lighting, including the establishment of a new wastewater treatment plant. The project will give the Public Institution Lipica Stud Farm a new image, improve conditions for breeding Lipizzaner horses as well as improve working conditions for the employees. The modernised facilities, newly-managed external areas and the remaining infrastructure will roundup the entire tourist offer. In addition to the fact that the project should be implemented in order to provide safety for horses as well as for visitors, the project also represents a part of a more extensive project for the comprehensive maintenance of the Lipica Stud Farm which will significantly contribute to improving the tourist infrastructure in the region Obalno-kraška.
The renovation of the key facilities of the Lipica Stud Farm will strengthen the destination’s competitiveness, by particularly focusing on sustainable development (traditional materials, reuse, revitalisation of facilities and infrastructure (houses, parks, tree avenues, parks, etc.), drinking water and wastewater management and energy efficiency).
In terms of tourism, Lipica is a recognised brand and thus an important part of the identity of Slovenia’s tourism. Following infrastructure maintenance, the Lipica historical centre will begin operating as a new cultural centre which will, inter alia, contribute to enhancing the implementation of tourism programmes in Lipica as well as enhancing the number of visitors. This will increase revenues from tourism and the available funds for development, resulting in greater prosperity for the inhabitants and strengthened identity of the region as a whole.
