EU funds for Novo mesto Emergency Centre

Ljubljana, 9 October 2014 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, acting as the Managing Authority for EU Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund, approved the project Novo mesto Emergency Centre. The project will enhance the speed and efficiency of treating emergent acute cases in south-east Slovenia and establish the adequate connections with other emergency centres at a higher professional level. The value of the project amounts to over 6 million euros of which the European Regional Development Fund contribution amounts to almost 4.2 million euros.

The investment will establish modern conditions to provide emergency medical treatment in south-east Slovenia as well as merge the primary and hospital emergency services. This will facilitate medical treatment of patients in a single location and significantly improve diagnostic and therapeutic treatment.

The project (the first phase of the new construction) covers the construction of the lower ground floor and the ground floor with the building being connected to the existing hospital. The ground floor will be used exclusively as the emergency centre while the lower ground floor will house the ambulance station, wardrobe, sanitary fitting and other ancillary rooms for the staff. The facilities located at the lower ground floor will be financed by the hospital.

The investment will enhance the organisational efficiency (by merging the primary and hospital emergency internal and surgical medicine services, by shortening the transportation route) and provide the adequate spatial placement of emergency services which are at the moment being provided in inadequate facilities. Enhancing the effectiveness and raising the level of quality of services will also shorten the waiting periods for patients to receive medical treatment as well as shorten the duration of stay for hospitalised emergency patients.

The project will enhance efficiency, improve accessibility and raise the level of professional competence regarding the provision of continuous emergency medical treatment of patients within the Novo mesto General Hospital area.
