EU funds for Slovenj Gradec Emergency Centre

Ljubljana, 4 June 2014 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, acting as the Managing Authority for EU Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund, issued a grant award decision for the project “Slovenj Gradec Emergency Centre”, which will contribute to enhancing the efficiency of treating emergent acute cases in the region of Koroška. The value of the project amounts to 5.3 million euros of which the European Regional Development Fund contribution amounts to almost 4 million euros.

The Slovenj Gradec Emergency Centre is currently operating in two locations. The existing facilities do not meet the requirement set by the national project nor enable additional adjustments or merging the two locations for patients to be treated in a single location. This prevents rational use of equipment and the organisational fragmentation hinders the utilisation of the existing diagnostic and therapeutic resources. The Slovenj Gradec General Hospital does not have the necessary facilities for the observation of patients and one-day hospitalisation.
The investment in the Slovenj Gradec Emergency Centre covers construction and finishing works, electrical installation, mechanical installation, external works and supply of equipment. The emergency centre is foreseen to be located next to the existing Slovenj Gradec General Hospital.
The objective of constructing the emergency centre is to allow optimal access to services and provide fast and effective medical assistance to emergency patients in a single location. The project will establish modern conditions for the implementation of emergency medical services in the region of Koroška, including the merging of primary and hospital emergency services. This will facilitate medical treatment of patients in one location and significantly improve diagnostic and therapeutic treatment.
For more information contact the Ministry of Health which acts as the Intermediate Body and is responsible for the implementation of the project.
