Ljubljana, 25 January 2013 – The Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, acting as the Managing Authority for the EU structural funds and the Cohesion Fund, issued 7 decisions awarding EU funds for the programme “Innovative scheme for the co-financing of PhD studies to promote social challenges – generation 2012”. The overall framework grant amounts to almost 7 million Euros of which 85 percent is contributed by the European Social Fund. On the basis of the approved decisions, seven Slovenian higher education institutions, which organize PhD studies, will publish public calls for proposals in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia. The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, together with higher education institutions, foresees that 739 future PhD students will enrol in the programme.
The objective of the programme “Innovative scheme for the co-financing of PhD studies to promote social challenges – generation 2012” is to give support in the field of technology and science and to strengthen the transfer of knowledge between higher education, research activity and the economy. This will be facilitated also with the promotion of PhD studies which will, among other things, also have a positive effect on sustainable development.
The subject of the public call for proposals, which will be published by each higher education institution in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, namely after the approval of the programme, is the co-financing of PhD studies for those PhD students who enrolled into the 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of their PhD 3rd level studies in the academic year 2012/2013.
