Ljubljana, 24 December 2013 – Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, acting as the Managing Authority for EU structural funds and the Cohesion Fund, issued a decision awarding EU funds for the project of the construction of the Institute of Biochemistry and the Institute of Cell Biology of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ljubljana. The realisation of the investment will create new space for research and education activity as well as technologically adequate spaces. The project, worth 5.8 million euros, will be co-financed under the European Regional Development Fund in the amount of 4.3 million euros.
The new facility will encompass 2,365.45 m2 of research-education infrastructure, which will enable a smooth implementation of scientific-research and educational activity. The investment will contribute to the future development of the medical clinical practice and to the improvement of the conditions for the transfer of knowledge and achievements of research activity to economy or the application of the knowledge. The construction of the new substitute facility will raise the technological level of experimental-research work. In addition to better organisation and the quality of lab work, the newly-constructed facility will enable the modernisation of certain research methods and introduce new methods. This will also raise the level of quality of the scientific-research work.
The project will also contribute to the development of new molecular technologies and methods of healing and their transfer into clinical practice and the economy. This will also raise the quality of healthcare services in Slovenian as well as internationally and create new opportunities for the development of services and products in this field.
