Ljubljana, 31 December 2012 – The Ministry of Economic Development and Technology (MEDT), as the Managing Authority for the EU structural funds and the Cohesion Fund, issued a decision granting EU funds for the Gorenja vas bypass. The project, which is worth 5.53 million Euros, will be co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund in the amount of 3.44 million Euros.
The investment, which is located within the 4th development axis and includes the construction of a bypass for the settlement Gorenja vas at the regional road Gorenja vas-Trebija, will be realised within the framework of the measures for the establishment of a modern distance traffic route which will connect Posočje with Central Slovenia. The route of the new bypass will start in the newly-constructed roundabout of two regional roads at the Eastern side of Gorenja vas; it will finish at the Western side of the settlement by connecting to the existing regional road towards Hotavlje. It will be located on the left bank of the river Poljanska Sora.
The investment includes the construction of 618 metres of a new bypass road, arrangement of two crossroads, construction of supporting and flood walls, arrangement of two bus stops and drainage of water. The investment also includes the relocation or protection of wires of economic public infrastructure, the arrangement of transport equipment and signalisation, country architecture, noise barrier and the demolition of facilities with the accompanying supporting facilities.
The project will ensure adequate conditions for a safe and undisturbed traffic, while the settlement of Gorenja vas will be disburdened of the transit traffic. Due to the fact that for both entrances into the settlement (incorporation of the bypass to the existing road) adequate measures to diminish the traffic (roundabout and incorporation of a centre island on the line for taking a left turn) are foreseen, the project will also improve traffic safety.
The funds in the amount of 1.57 billion Euros in the framework of the Operational Programme for the Development of the Environmental and Transport Infrastructure for the period 2007–2013, in the framework of which the project is co-financed, are primarily meant for the modernisation or construction of new infrastructure in the field of environment and transport. The smaller share of these funds is also meant for the projects in the field of sustainable energy use.
