EU funds for the Information Centre of the Landscape Park Strunjan
Ljubljana, 19 June 2012 – Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, as the Managing Authority for the EU structural funds and the Cohesion Fund, approved the project Information Centre of the Landscape Park Strunjan. The Information Centre will be placed in the Northern part of the Strunjan saltpans. In the framework of the project two saltpan houses, where the Information Centre, the quarters for the Institute leadership and the facility for the presentation of the saltpan craft, will be reorganised. The Information Centre is needed for the activity of the Park as well as for the Public Institute Landscape Park Strunjan. The overall value of the project, which is co-financed in the framework of the Operational Programme for Strengthening Regional Development Potentials for the period 2007-2013, is 428,670.11 Euros. The contribution of the European Regional Development Fund is 249,424.11 Euros.
The Information Centre is needed because over 100 people cross the saltpans in an hour during the summer months. The Information Centre will provide the visitors with the needed information about the area and the surroundings and will direct the visitors. The Information Centre will also offer saltpan products (salt, salt water, mud) as well as the local products of the farms in the Strunjan area. The Information Centre will contribute to the revitalisation and protection of natural cultural heritage of the area, the improvement of the tourist offer in the field of experiencing nature and the natural and cultural characteristics of Slovenia, the protection of natural habitats and the support of biodiversity, the promotion of the values of a healthy life-style. The establishment of the Information Centre will create the opportunities to prevent risk by improving the management of natural resources.
The Public Institute Landscape Park Strunjan is currently situated in inappropriate premises of the house for paraplegics in Pacag. In this location the leadership of the Institute is removed from the areas it manages. In the first facility, where the Information Centre will be located, the managing staff of the landscape Park will be situated. By being present in the area which it manages the management would be more accessible for the inhabitants as well as the visitors. The second facility will be the location for the presentations of the saltpan equipment and the traditional ways of making salt, salt water, flower of salt and saltpan mud. In this way, the salt makers will present the traditional procedures of making salt by using the traditional equipment.
The investment realises the objective of the Operational Programme for Strengthening Regional Development Potentials for the period 2007-2013, priority axis “Integration of Natural and Cultural Potentials”. The authority responsible for the implementation of the project is the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology – EU Cohesion Policy Directorate.
