EU funds for the Izola Emergency Centre

Ljubljana, 12 February 2013 – The Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, acting as the Managing Authority for the EU structural funds and the Cohesion Fund, issued a decision awarding EU funds for the project “Izola Emergency Centre”. The construction of the emergency centre will establish modern conditions for emergency medical service in the area of the region Obalno-kraška regija, including merging primary and hospital emergency service in a single location. This will ensure better conditions for diagnostic and therapeutic treatment of patients. The overall value of the investment amounts to about 5.6 million Euros of which the European Regional Development Fund contribution amounts to 4.5 million Euros.

In the framework of the project the Izola Emergency Centre will be set up. In a smaller extent the setting up of the Emergency Centre will include the reconstruction of the existing facility and, to a greater extent, a new construction of the Izola General Hospital facility extension. The investment will enhance the organisational efficiency of the emergency service and solve the issue of spatial placement of the emergency services which are now carried out in less adequate facilities.

The investment will bring greater efficiency, accessibility and higher professional level for non-stop emergency medical service for the users of emergency medical service from the gravitation area of the Izola General Hospital. Among other things, the investment will increase the speed and efficiency of treating emergency acute state, the waiting time for treating emergency patients and the duration of stay of the hospitalized patients will be shortened. The objective of the project is also to ensure adequate interaction with other higher professional level emergency centres.

The investment directly contributes to the realisation of the objectives of the Operational Programme for Strengthening Regional Development Potentials for the period 2007–2013, main type of activity “Economic development infrastructure”.
