Ljubljana, 17 May 2012 – Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, as the Managing Authority for the EU structural fund and the Cohesion Fund, issued a decision granting EU funds for the project non-level crossing of the road Ormož – Središče ob Dravi and the railway track Ormož – Murska Sobota – Hodoš in Pušenci. The project, which is worth 5.68 million Euros, is part of the Operational Programme of Environmental and Transport Infrastructure Development for the period 2007–2013. It is financed by the European Regional Development Fund in the amount of 4.3 million Euros.
In the framework of the project 882 metres of the road will be modernised, 183 metres of the overpass over the railway and passageway for pedestrians under the railway in the area of stops will be built and also water detachments (gas conduits, waterworks, electricity detachments, street lighting, etc.) will be built and protected.
The objective of the project, which is foreseen to be completed by May 2014, is mainly to improve traffic safety and ensure greater fluency of traffic in the connecting roads. With the investment the costs for the users will decrease, also noise and exhaust gasses will be decreased. Besides improving traffic safety the realisation of the project will improve the living conditions of the local inhabitants, namely, the noise and the amount of exhaust gases will decrease due to greater fluency of traffic and the elimination of the bottleneck (waiting at the gates).
With cancelling the existing level crossing there is a possibility to arrange the railway track Ormož–Murska Sobota–Hodoš in Pušenci to run at the speed of 160 kilometres per hour. The mentioned railway track is part of the rail link Lyon–Trieste–Divača/Koper–Divača–Ljubljana–Budapest–Ukraine border.
Funds of the Operational Programme of Environmental and Transport Infrastructure Development, which is worth 1.57 billion Euros, are primarily intended for the modernisation or new infrastructural constructions in the area of environment and transport, and, to a lesser extent, also for sustainable energy projects.
