EU funds for the reconstruction of the National Gallery of Slovenia
Ljubljana, 28 September 2012 – Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, as the Managing Authority for the EU structural funds and the Cohesion Fund, approved the project Reconstruction of the National Gallery of Slovenia with the associated external and municipal infrastructure. The overall value of the project is 13,832,739.78 Euros, of which the European Regional Development Fund contribution amounts to 11,420,075.70 Euros.
With the realisation of the project the exhibit areas for setting up permanent and special collections and depots will be arranged. The realised project will assure more adequate working conditions for the restorers and conservators and will also contribute to the arrangement of the pedagogical activities and adult learning. The reconstruction of the facility will also fulfil the demands in the field of energy for the complex museum and exhibition activity and also provide earthquake safety and fire protection.
With the reconstruction the National Gallery of Slovenia as well as the wider region will be provided with the adequate surfaces for setting up permanent and special collections, while the new depot areas will assure the adequate storage of cultural heritage.
In the future the National Gallery of Slovenia will be responsible for updating the collections. This way it will further strengthen its international role and reputation in the field of museums and will, thus, become equal to other national arts museums as it is a reliable partner in preparing, exchanging and providing art heritage.
The investment into the reconstruction of the National Gallery of Slovenia with the associated external and municipal infrastructure realises the objectives of the Operational Programme for Strengthening Regional Development Potentials for the period 2007–2013, priority axis “Integration of natural and cultural potentials”. The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Technology is responsible for the implementation of the project.
