EU funds for the renovation of the Zlatorog Villa in Bled

Ljubljana, 15 March 2013 – The Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, acting as the Managing Authority for the EU structural funds and the Cohesion Fund, issued a decision awarding EU funds for the project “Renovation of the Zlatorog Villa in Bled”. The villa, which is currently dilapidating, will be renovated for the purpose of the implementation of the programme of protocol activity at the highest state level which will contribute also to raising the level of competitiveness of the tourism industry. The overall value of the investment amounts to 1.8 million Euros, of which the European Regional Development Fund contribution amounts to almost 1.5 million Euros.

The infrastructure investment will include construction finishing works for the overall renovation of the facility. After its renovation the villa will meet all the standards or regulations. The villa will be used for the work, social events, catering and accommodation for guests in the framework of the protocol activity at the highest state level. An auxiliary service facility will be built next to the villa and the heavily worn-out winery Ledenica will be renovated.

The approach of the overall reconstruction preserves the quality of the existing construction and the engineering structure of the villa, which is protected as a monument, and the rationalization of the investment costs, which will also increase the project’s value. The investment will intensify the extent of tourism turnover and spending (the target guests are high representatives from abroad and those seeking a more prestigious offer); the investment will also contribute to the additional visibility of the location.

The investment represents a direct contribution to the realisation of the objectives of the Operational Programme for Strengthening Regional Development Potentials for the period 2007-2013, main type of activity “Integration of natural and cultural potentials”. The ministry, responsible for the implementation of the project, is the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology.
