EU funds for wastewater collection and treatment in Ptujsko polje

Ljubljana, 16 August 2013 – Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, acting as the Managing Authority for EU structural funds and the Cohesion Fund, issued a decision awarding EU funds for the projects of wastewater collection and treatment in the area of Ptujsko polje. The overall estimated value of the project, which foresees investments into wastewater collection and treatment in the municipalities Ptuj, Gorišnica and Markovci, is 13 million Euros of which the contribution of the Cohesion Fund amounts to 7.5 million Euros.

The integrated project, which is foreseen to be closed no later than at the end of 2015, consists of two projects – Construction of the sewage system 3 Bukovci-Formin and the wastewater treatment plant Formin as the Construction of the sewage system 5 in the urban municipality Ptuj.

The project foresees the construction of a sewage system in the municipalities Gorišnica and Markovci, namely in the agglomerations Stojnci and Bukovci. 95 per cent of the inhabitants of the area, which will be connected entirely to the wastewater treatment plant Formin, will be connected to the 17,315 metres of the new sewage system.

In the urban municipality Ptuj a sewage system will be constructed in the agglomeration Ptuj and Ptuj-right bank as well as the interconnector circuit from the agglomeration Grajena to the wastewater treatment plant; 23,529 metres of sewage system will also be constructed. The entire area will be connected to the central wastewater treatment plant Ptuj.

The realisation of both projects will reduce the pollution of water bodies and the soil (reduction of emissions into the surface and groundwater and soil will have a positive impact on the environment, especially the sensitive and nature protection ecosystems). The projects will also reduce the uncontrolled emissions of potentially contaminated water into the environment. This will enhance the quality of life and improve the environmental parameters.

The funds of the Operational Programme for the Development of the Environmental and Transport Infrastructure for the period 2007-2013, which is worth the 1.57 billion Euros, are primarily meant for modernisation or construction of new infrastructure in the field of environment and transport. The smaller share of these funds is also meant for the projects in the field of sustainable energy use.
