EU support for the business premises of the Department of Environmental Sciences at the Podgorica Reactor Centre

Ljubljana, 12 September 2014 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy in its role as the Managing Authority for EU Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund issued a grant award decision for the business premises of the Department of Environmental Sciences at the Podgorica Reactor Centre which is a part of the Josef Stefan Institute. A little less than 900 m² of research infrastructure will be renovated and new research equipment purchased in the context of this investment which is estimated at nearly EUR 6.7 million. The contribution from the European Regional Development Fund amounts to EUR 5.6 million.

The project aims to provide adequate and appropriate premises and facilitate renovation and upgrading of the laboratory equipment for quality scientific research to be carried out. The Josef Stefan Institute operates in two locations – Vič in Ljubljana and Dol pri Ljubljani with the seat of the Podgorica Reactor Centre. The latter faces considerable lack of space. The project will help address this issue by providing state-of-the-art premises for scientific research, particularly in the framework of the Department for Environmental Sciences which deals with environmental technology research, while the rest of the infrastructure will also be provided – sewers will be relocated and a treatment plant for the premises constructed.
