MEDT issued a decision for awarding the EU funds for the project “Construction of the research centre of the National Institute of Chemistry Slovenia”

Ljubljana, 6 April 2012 – Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, in the role of the Managing Authority for the EU structural funds and the Cohesion Fund, approved the project “Construction of the research centre of the National Institute of Chemistry Slovenia”. The overall project value in the framework of the Operational Programme for Strengthening Regional Development Differences for the period 2007-2013 is 10.6 million Euros. The European Regional Development Fund contribution is 7.2 million Euros.  

 

With the investment the National Institute of Chemistry will gain adequate facilities for research and educational activities. The researchers, employees and other visitors of the Institute will be able to use five new research laboratories which will disburden the spatial needs in the existing facilities and enable the placement of new top-level research equipment. 

 

The project will also strengthen the institution and contribute to a higher quality of the products and services. In the times of the financial and economic crisis the strengthening of research and development activities is of great importance as these activities have a positive effect on the economy.

 

Among other things the investment “Construction of the research centre of the National Institute of Chemistry Slovenia” will bring a higher level of scientific-research activity and the recognition of the institute. It will contribute to the strengthening of the connection with the economy with special emphasis on the transfer of knowledge, new knowledge, integration into the science community, development of research infrastructure and training and education. 

 

The first three years of project implementation will bring 7 new jobs, publication of 3 patents and 3 scientific publications.  

 

The ministry responsible for the project is the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport in the role of the intermediate body.
