The programme was closed with the full membership of the Republic of Slovenia in the European Union on 1 May 2004. All the projects which were co-financed in the framework of the ISPA programme and were not finished by the mentioned date became projects of the Cohesion Fund.
In the period 2000-2006 European Commission approved 28 Slovenian projects in the field of environment and transport. For the realisation of these projects the European Union gave 253.6 million Euros. The majority of the projects, i.e. 16, were environmental, eight projects were of transport nature and four projects were in the field of technical assistance.
The majority of the mentioned projects have already been finished. The projects that are still being realised will be finished no later than the end of 2010. This is when the so-called period of eligibility of the expenditure for this period ends.
In the framework of the new financial period 2007-2013 the funds from the Cohesion Fund are in the Republic of Slovenia drawn on the basis of the Operational Programme of Environmental and Transport Infrastructure Development 2007-2013.
