Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, Managing Authority for European Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund, has issued a grant-award decision under the programming period 2007-2014 for the project Drinking water supply in Suha Krajina. The project will ensure a safe and healthy drinking water supply in the area. The project is worth EUR 36 million with Cohesion Fund contribution standing at EUR 20.8 million.
The project Drinking water supply in Suha Krajina addresses the problem of drinking water supply in the area of the municipalities of Dobrepolje, Dolenjske Toplice, Mirna Peč, Kočevje and Žužemberk. The project will upgrade and hydraulically improve the existing water supply systems by connecting new residents to the public water supply network and providing new water resources thus ensuring a safe and healthy drinking water supply.
The project covers the construction of 152,085 metres of pipelines, 7 pumping stations (of which 5 are new) and upgrading 2 pumping structures, 16 water reservoirs, 16 relief shafts, 18 reduction shafts and 11 measuring shafts. Due to the occasional poor quality of drinking water in catchments, inadequate water supply system capacities and disconnection with the system, the inclusion of 5 new water sources and hydraulic improvement of the system will establish a comprehensive drinking water supply system in these municipalities. In addition to connecting new residents to the public drinking water supply system and improving the quality of supply and living conditions of the population, the project will also contribute to reducing water losses.
