Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, Managing Authority for European Structural Funds and the Cohesion Fund, has issued a grant-award decision under the programming period 2007-2014 for the project Drinking water supply in the Ljubljanica river basin – Set 1 and Drinking water supply in the area Sodražica – Ribnica - Kočevje. Both projects will ensure a safe and healthy drinking water supply in these areas. The projects are worth EUR 65.6 million with Cohesion Fund contribution standing at EUR 40.6 million.
The project Drinking water supply in the Ljubljanica river basin – Set addresses the problem of drinking water supply in the area of the municipalities of Postojna and Pivka. The existing water supply system will be upgraded and hydraulically improved by connecting new residents to the public water supply network and ensuring a safe and healthy drinking water supply by constructing drinking water treatment plants. The primary network Postojna – Pivka will be reconstructed and upgraded, a water supply system will be built in Buje and the municipality of Pivka, catchments and waterworks Malni and Korotan will be built, and a transport pipeline and distribution network in Petelinje will be reconstructed. This will give more than 21,000 people safe access to healthy drinking water. The project is worth EUR 34.8 million with the Cohesion Fund contribution standing at EUR 21.8 million.
The project Drinking water supply in the area Sodražica – Ribnica – Kočevje aims to ensure a reliable supply of safe and healthy drinking water, improve hydraulic characteristics and connect new residents to the public water supply network. 65,570 metres of pipelines, 3 drinking water treatment plants, 11 pumping stations and 4 water reservoirs will be built. This will provide more than 25,000 inhabitants with a better and safer drinking water supply, and more than 1,300 inhabitants will be connected to the new system. This will improve the quality of drinking water supply and living conditions of the population, and will also reduce water losses. The project is worth EUR 30.8 million with the Cohesion Fund contribution standing at EUR 18.8 million.
