Ljubljana, 29 October 2018 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, the Managing Authority for ERDF, ESF and Cohesion Fund, has issued a grant decision for the project ‘’Murska Sobota town centre redevelopment – Phase 1’’. The 5 million Euro redevelopment project will receive an ERDF contribution worth over EUR 3 million.
The project focuses on a comprehensive redevelopment of the town centre of Murska Sobota, which includes the revamp of the Trg zmage square and the southern part of the Slovenska ulica street. Local authorities incorporated the project in the town’s sustainable urban strategy to revitalise and breathe new life into its nearly empty centre. Once revamped and improved, the town centre is expected to attract and cater to the needs of different target groups, especially town residents and the young, which will stop the negative trend of people moving out, while improving social conditions and contributing to social well-being of the local community.
The Murska Sobota town centre redevelopment project, one in a series of ITI-funded projects, also aims to enhance and restore Murska Sobota’s open public space, with some improvements to urban infrastructure (water distribution and wastewater systems).
