Ljubljana, 6 February 2019 – Government Office, the Managing Authority for ESF, ERDF and Cohesion Fund, has issued a grant decision for the project ‘’Nova Gorica Cycling Network’’. The project budget totals EUR 6.6 million, of which EUR 2.1 million comes from the European Regional Development Fund.
Urban Municipality of Nova Gorica will establish a mobility centre and construct cycle paths on the following sections – streets: Rejčeva ulica, Delpinova ulica, Vojkova ulica, Ulica XXX. divizije, Južna kolesarska pot (South cycle path), Južna kolesarska pot-trikotnik (South cycle path – triangle), Trubarjeva ulica, Delpinova ulica extension, Kidričeva ulica extension, Streliška cesta, Cankarjevo naselje and Cankarjeva ulica. This project is important for the city area as it will help significantly increase cycling levels, thus boosting sustainable mobility and stimulating change in people’s attitudes and behaviour by encouraging the shift towards a cycling culture. The new traffic management arrangements will encourage residents to use bicycles for short distance trips, which will contribute to decreasing the number of traffic accidents involving cyclists and pedestrians, while improving traffic safety and people’s perception that cycling is a safe, fun, healthy and low-cost way of getting around.
