Ljubljana, 22 May 2018 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, the Managing Authority for ERDF, ESF and the Cohesion Fund, issued a grant decision for the project ‘’Door to Pomurje – Region Promotion Centre’’. The estimated cost of the project stands at EUR 4.4 million, and the European Regional Development Fund will contribute a little under EUR 2.1 million.
Slovenia’s pavilion from the Expo 2015 show in Milan which was handed over to the Municipality of Murska Sobota now carries the name Vrata v Pomurje (‘’Door to Pomurje’’), and stands on the field between Sobota Lake and the motorway attracting tourists and other visitors to the Pomurje region. The pavilion will accommodate the newly established region promotion centre and spur long-term improvements in the economic, physical, social and environmental aspects of the area.
The aim of the project is to boost business and tourism in the region. Providing new content and repurposed, the venue will contribute to revitalising the area and making it more attractive through this futuristic-shaped structure. Infrastructure development and improved access to the area, erection of new facilities, landscaping and improved offer of new tourism-related and recreational activities will help improve the quality of life in local environment for residents and visitors. This project is important from the environmental aspect as well; it will put an end to gravel excavation activities in the surroundings, which will help reduce water and soil pollution.
