Ljubljana, 30 April 2018 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, the Managing Authority for ERDF, ESF and the Cohesion Fund, issued a grant decision for the projects of revitalisation of the old Cukrarna building in Ljubljana and the area of the Olympic Swimming Pool in Koper. The two projects are part of municipal sustainable urban strategies, and are to receive funding under the Integrated Territorial Investments (ITI) mechanism.
The revitalisation of the Cukrarna building seeks to improve the urban environment, provide the city of Ljubljana with an exhibition space of large dimensions to host larger exhibitions and events, and to further enliven the wider city centre. Urban Municipality of Ljubljana wishes to transform the former sugar refinery into a modern gallery space that will improve the visual and fine arts scene in the city and in this part of Europe. The project cost is estimated at EUR 23 million, and the foreseen contribution from the European Regional Development Fund stands at a little under EUR 11 million.
The second project which is part of the sustainable urban strategy of Urban Municipality of Koper seeks to support the rehabilitation of the degraded land in the public area of the Olympic centre which offers a variety of sports programmes, including an Olympic-size pool. The project seeks to finalise the building which accommodates the swimming pool, and finally put a stop to the functional, environmental and social degradation of the area. The investment totals EUR 8 million; EUR 4.7 million will be contributed by the European Regional Development Fund under the ITI mechanism.
