Ljubljana, 2 November 2020 - Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has issued a funding decision for the project Wastewater collection and treatment in the Drava River basin – Urban Municipality Ptuj which will be carried out by Urban Municipality Ptuj. The EUR 12.2 million municipal environmental infrastructure project will receive a contribution from the Cohesion Fund amounting to EUR 5.5 million.
The municipal environmental infrastructure project which is included in the Agreement on the development of Podravje region aims to ensure wastewater treatment to remove contaminants and produce effluent that is safe enough for release into the environment so as to reduce water pollution and water improve quality.
Works under the project will include the construction of a 32-kilometre long sewage system and of 16 pumping stations. Over 1,900 residents will benefit from improved wastewater services, which will lead to better quality of the Drava River and will help reduce pollution of groundwater in the area.
