Ljubljana, 6 December 2021 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has approved EUR 764.5 thousand of European Regional Development Fund contribution for a project, implemented under the Agreement on the Development of the Region, for setting up electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Kranj. This is the first project supported by the ESI funds focusing entirely on EV charging stations; thus far EV charging stations were supported under Park and Ride projects resulting in around one hundred parking units offering EV charging.
As part of the project, Urban Municipality Kranj will set up three public EV charging stations for eight units offering EV charging for electric buses used for urban passenger transport. These EV charging stations will be installed at the locations of the Komunala Zarica bus stops with two units offering EV charging connected to the battery system using solar power, Primskovo Business Zone with four units offering EV charging, and “Standard” Sotočje with two units offering EV charging. Thus, Urban Municipality Kranj will promote passenger transport transition to cleaner forms of transportation, increase environmental protection and ensure economic use of public property. The project is planned to be completed in autumn 2022.
This is the first project in the period 2014-2020 supported by the ESI funds that focuses entirely on EV charging stations. Thus far EV charging stations were indirectly supported under Park and Ride projects with parking units offering EV charging representing only a smaller segment of the projects under Park and Ride systems. Such systems have already been introduced in Krško, Ljubljana, Grosuplje, Kamnik, Sevnica, Šentjur, Borovnica, Celje and Koper resulting in around one hundred parking units offering EV charging.
