Ljubljana, 25 November 2021 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has approved EUR 1.67 million from European Regional Development Fund for the project Arrangement of the city centre – the Rozmanova ulica Street and the Prešernov trg Square. The project is the latest in a series of projects which use EU funding for promoting efficient use of space in urban areas. Over the past seven years, Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has approved EUR 76.2 million in EU funds for numerous investments that support town revitalisation.
As part of the project, the Urban Municipality of Novo mesto will renovate nearly 5,000 square metres of revitalised areas in the city, of which more than 3,000 square metres pertains to the Rozmanova ulica Street and about 1,800 square metres to the Prešernov trg Square, including the Kastelčeva ulica Street and the Linhartova ulica Street. Namely, the project will result in reorganising the entire economic infrastructure in the area from water supply, municipal and meteor sewage and public lighting, as well as arranging underground bins. The project will also result in renovated public areas, including roads and pavements, as wells as the renovated Komeljev trg Square and a new cascading square. This will improve the environment for about a hundred inhabitants, and will also establish conditions for an attractive stay and attract new, especially younger residents to visit the city. The project is planned to be completed in spring 2022.
In the financial perspective 2014-2020, Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has thus far approved EUR 76.2 million in EU funds for revitalising degraded urban space within urban municipalities, namely in the frame of the Integrated Territorial Investments mechanism.
