Opening of the Tremerje cycling bridge marks the final stage of the development of the cycling route connecting the towns of Celje and Laško; the entire route, though, will run all the way to Zidani Most. The section is a part of the G-17 national cycling connection between Celje and Brežice and will also be used for long-distance cycling. The latest addition to the cycling network in the region, where cycling was mostly done on the national road which was heavily burdened by traffic, will now connect the Urban Municipality of Celje with its hinterland.
The well-regulated and enjoyable cycling route will cater to the needs of daily utility cyclists, and improved conditions allowing the cyclists to enjoy in a safe ride will foster sustainable mobility in the long run. The new cycling connection comes with a bicycle sharing system which allows the residents to borrow a bike from a dock either in Celje, take a ride to Laško, and return the bike to a designated dock in Laško or vice versa.
The new cycling route is extremely important for the region in terms of fostering tourism and supporting recreation. The project was designed for cyclists and pedestrians as most of it runs along the Savinja River. The lovely surroundings of the route invite them to enjoy and discover nature while treating it with respect.
