The aim of the project, which was funded under Integrated Territorial Investments, was to rehabilitate and redevelop 26,239 m2 of degraded urban area stretching along the Semedela promenade. The works included the design and development of recreational space and green space, setting up of urban furniture and landscaping, which has turned the area into a safe and pleasant environment and an attractive community gathering place.
A comprehensive green city design and management, and the connectivity between the green and open spaces with the hinterland facilitate access to urban area and the coastline both to city residents and visitors and provide for a variety of amenities. Water and coastal zone management which also includes protection against adverse effects of water has helped achieve alignment between the land use and conservation requirements.
