The main idea behind the InnoRenew project is to develop and establish the new InnoRenew Centre of Excellence (CoE) that was founded in 2017 with the help of EU funds. The CoE focuses on top-level scientific research in the use of renewable materials. Specifical emphasis is given to developing industry-relevant innovations, supporting companies in their activities regarding research and development innovations and establishing connections with policy makers to promote and support companies and research in the forest-timber sector.
InnoRenew CoE focuses on two technologies that distinguish this centre of excellence from other institutions:
- wood modification and
- restorative environmental and ergonomic design (REED).
Their vision is to become the world’s leading institution in the field of interdisciplinary science that addresses the built environment, as well as to be regarded as an example of excellence in the field of international research, cooperation with the economic sector and involvement of the public.
