Korenika eco-social farm is a social enterprise providing a better future to individuals at a disadvantage and giving a reason to smile to those much in need of one. It not only offers contact with nature but also acts as a home away from home. Already in the previous programming period Eco-social farm received European Social Fund support with the ESF also supporting its social activation programme in the current programming period.
The social activation programme is a comprehensive programme addressing the issue of long-term unemployed and long-term recipients of financial social assistance, who often face complex social and health problems, and those who are socially excluded, vulnerable, less motivated for change, and therefore less-employable. In addition to in-depth individual work the programme also provides various group activities, such as education, lectures, workshops, visits to various governmental, non-governmental institutions and companies. Thus, the programme also enhances cooperation and integration of all stakeholders in the local environment. The aim of the programme is for people to acquire social skills, raise their motivation, develop functional competencies for active problem solving and empower themselves to become more employable.
The Šalovci farm has established a system of organic production and processing of food. Over 20 hectares of land is grown with crops, herbs, fruits and vegetables. Fruits and mushrooms are harvested and turned into organic products. The Šalovci farm has its own brand. They sell herbal teas, cold-pressed oils, dried and canned fruits and vegetables, winter stock, juices and syrups. They have set up a spacious herb garden and zoo, home to many animals popular with the youngest visitors. The number of visitors is increasing as well as the many activities and trainings they host.
Within a few years Korenika has become an example of good practice in the field of social entrepreneurship, employment of people with disabilities and persons from other vulnerable social groups as well as in the field of protective employment.
