The programme ‘On-the-job training’ brings benefits to both employers and unemployed people. Tjaša from Celje participated in the programme which helped her stand out from the crowd and shine. She showed her employer she is a hard-working, diligent, eager and trustworthy person. Her programme mentor wrote a recommendation letter which helped her land a job.
‘’I was unemployed for more than two years. I had some job opportunities during that period of time, but I often ended up being surprised in a negative way or disappointed by the expectations and pressures from the employers.’’ The desire to get a job was big, so she kept looking for a chance and then decided to undertake retraining. After completing schooling she joined the programme ‘On-the-job training’ and got a job within a month following the completion of retraining. ‘’Participation in the programme undoubtedly helped me shine and prove my skills in a profession I have always dreamt about.’’
The programme seeks to provide and enhance the skills, knowledge and competencies of unemployed people whose lack of knowledge or work experience prevents them from getting a job. The retraining process takes place directly with employer at the selected workplace allowing unemployed people to be directly involved in the work process. Guided by a mentor, the programme participants perform the tasks identified in the selected training programme. On programme completion, the employers draw up a performance report and identify the knowledge, skills and competencies obtained during training.
