Ljubljana, 22 June 2021 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has approved EU funding for the project Drinking water supply in the Savinjska region – Lot 1. The EUR 6.2 million environmental infrastructure project will be implemented by Municipality Žalec together with Municipalities Braslovče, Polzela, Prebold, Tabor and Vransko under the Agreement on the development of the Savinjska region. The project will be supported by the Cohesion Fund, with the contribution standing at nearly EUR 2.6 million.

In its role as Project Manager, Municipality Žalec has teamed up with the abovementioned municipalities to carry out the project. The municipalities are all are served by the water supply systems Tabor, Vransko-Polzela and Žalec which make up one integrated water supply system. The aim of the project is to reconstruct the system; works will include reconstruction of an almost 2 kilometers long pipeline and reconstruction of three pumping stations. In addition, the municipalities will construct a new intake structure, a drinking water treatment plant and two water storage tanks while laying 10.5 kilometers of new water pipes.

As a result, 14,807 local residents will benefit from a safer, better and more reliable supply with quality drinking water.

The project is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2023.
