Last week we informed you of our activities in the field of energy security and renewable energy sources. Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the projects.
This year, Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has issued 13 grant-award decisions for energy-saving renovation of public buildings. In February, we approved EU funding for energy-saving renovation of the Residential Care Home of dr. France Bergelj Jesenice, and React-EU funding for energy renovation of Nova Gorica General Hospital. In March, we issued grant-award decisions for three new projects. EU funding for energy-saving renovation was approved for the National Institute of Public Health, namely for the main unit in Ljubljana and the regional units in Celje and Murska Sobota, as well as for the National Laboratory of Health, Environment and Food, namely for the buildings in Kranj and Maribor.
In April, we approved EU funding for energy renovation of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the Novo mesto General Hospital, as well as for the renovation of URI Soča and the Novo mesto General Hospital. React-EU funding was approved for the renovation of two facilities of the University Rehabilitation Institute Soča.
In May, we approved EU funding for energy-efficient renovation of the Soča Curricular and Extra-Curricular Activities Centre and in June, for energy-saving renovation of the Edvard Peperko Military Post in Ljubljana. In July, we approved EU funding for energy-efficient renovation of the residence hall for students in Maribor, and in August for the Traffic and Transport School Maribor, Centre for School and Outdoor Activities Ljubljana and the Štrk House in Ptuj.
This year alone, our Office has approved over EUR 24 million for energy-saving renovation of various public buildings. Successfully completed projects will significantly contribute to the reduction of operating costs by reducing annual energy consumption. Adequate energy rehabilitation is also one of the important levers of sustainable management of natural resources. The European Union allocates a great amount of funding to energy-saving renovation projects for both public and private buildings. There is still a lot of room for improvement and savings due to inadequate construction or dilapidated buildings. In the 2021-2027 financial period, Slovenia will allocate more than EUR 90 million for energy-saving renovation of buildings.
