The prizes are awarded for best practices, examples and concepts that demonstrate the values of the New European Bauhaus – sustainability, aesthetics and inclusiveness. The deadline for submission is 31 January 2023.
There will be 15 New European Bauhaus Prizes 2023 in total. The prizes will be awarded to those applicants that best put the concept of the New European Bauhaus into practice as concrete benefits for people’s lives.
The 2023 Prizes will be awarded in four categories which are based on the thematic axes of transformation that guide the delivery of the new European Bauhaus:
- reconnecting with nature
- regaining a sense of belonging
- prioritising the places and people that need it the most and
- the need for long-term, life-cycle thinking in the industrial ecosystem.
In each of the four categories, there are three parallel competition strands:
- Strand A: “New European Bauhaus Champions”, devoted to existing and completed projects with clear and positive results.
- Strand B: “New European Bauhaus Rising Stars”, dedicated to concepts submitted by young talents aged 30 or less. The concepts can be at different stages of development, from ideas with a clear plan to the prototype level.
- Strand C: “New European Bauhaus Education Champions”, devoted to initiatives focusing on education and learning. Both completed projects, as well as initiatives with a minimum level of maturity are eligible.
The winners will receive a monetary prize of up to EUR 30,000 and will benefit from a communication package that supports the promotion of their projects and concepts. The winners will be announced in the award ceremony hosted by the European Commission in June 2023.
The New European Bauhaus (NEB) adds a cultural dimension to the European Green Deal and promotes green transition by introducing changes on the ground that combine the values of sustainability, aesthetics and inclusiveness. The New European Bauhaus Prizes 2023 are awarded for best practices, examples and concepts that clearly demonstrate delivery of the three NEB fundamental values. The first two editions of the NEB Prizes in 2021 and 2022 rewarded excellence and creativity in implementing the New European Bauhaus and highlighted outstanding projects, ideas and concepts (over 3,000 applications were received in total) that further inspired the development of the initiative.
