Ljubljana, 17 May 2021 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has approved EU funding for the project Agreement on the development of region: Kokrica-Brdo. The EUR 362,000 cycle project will be implemented by Urban Municipality Kranj under the Agreement on the development of the Gorenjska region and supported by the EU, with the contribution from the European Regional Development Fund standing at EUR 155,000.
The goal of the project is to build a cycling route to close the current gap between the settlements Kokrica and Brdo. The municipality aims to link the settlements Kokrica and Predoslje with the newly established route that will be connected to the existing shared use path accommodating both cyclists and pedestrians and running to the Community Cultural Centre in Predoslje.
As part of the project, a total of 2,094 meters of cycling infrastructure and a further 1,701 meters of walking infrastructure will be provided. The project will also include the purchase and installation of the relevant equipment and will boast features that will make the new walking and cycling infrastructure more attractive and more comfortable, including drainage, crosswalks, public lighting, markings, signage and bicycle stands.
With this project, Urban Municipality Kranj aims to contribute to the increase in the number of daily journeys made by bicycles and to reduced car use in the urban area and its hinterland, as well as to significantly improve the safety of cyclists.
